The challenge for VIP Taxis

VIP Taxis was founded over 40 years ago in 1974 by the Norton brothers and believe it or not one of their first vehicles was a horse and carriage with a built in two way radio. It wasn't long after this that drivers belonging to VIP bought over the company and turned it into a taxi co-operative service.

By concentrating on quality drivers, VIP attracted quality account work and within a short period of time in the 80s they were the company of choice that many of the corporate businesses in Dublin decided to use and the majority still with them to this day. From their humble beginnings they reached 120 cars by the 90s.

But from the year 2000 onwards they went from a co-op to being privately owned bought over by key players within the company.

By 2008, with steady growth due to the boom in Ireland they grew to a fleet of 350 taxis and then the Celtic tiger groaned its last roar. They had to make changes accordingly by restructuring the business model.

“Although we did not grow in numbers we held our own and by 2011 we still maintained a fleet of 350 taxis, which was a remarkable achievement considering other taxi companies were going out of business or declined dramatically in numbers.” says Liz.

From 2008 until 2014 VIP Taxis worked away with their Sage 50 system. The business continued to grow and so did the transaction volumes. Their need to become more efficient at the back office side became more evident as managing financial transactions with their drivers was becoming more complex and time consuming.

VIP Taxis were early adopters of cloud based technology having implemented the iCabbi despatch system a number of years back.

"When we met with the the Envisage Cloud team we could see immediately that they understood the difficulties we were experiencing as a result of our rapid growth. They also took on board that we were keen to adopt the latest in technology advances and as we had moved to cloud for our Taxi Management software why should we not do the same for our Accounting software.” Liz goes on to say “we were very excited when we learned that we could swiftly transfer our Sage 50 data from our in-house server and relocate it in a Sage 200 Extra Online environment and that Envisage Cloud could improve on the integration between iCabbi and Sage 200. Along with this we could rid ourselves of any unnecessary hardware in our offices and have access to our Sage software anywhere and at any time".
